How the Australia GST Calculator Works
GST in Australia is 10% on most goods and services. Therefore, the maths is simple once you know whether your price already includes GST.
First of all, multiply the price before GST by 1.1.
Then, for a GST-inclusive price, divide the total by 11.
Finally, subtract the GST from the total, or divide the total by 1.1.
The formulas
Total = Price × 1.1 · GST in a total = Total ÷ 11

- Then: $100 + $10 $110.00
- Finally: GST share 9.09%
Similarly, a TV costs $550 including GST, and you want to claim the GST.

- Then: $550 − $50 $500.00

Australia GST Calculator FAQs
How do I calculate 10% GST?
To begin with, multiply the price before GST by 0.1 to get the GST. Then add it to the price, or simply multiply by 1.1. For example, $100 plus GST is $110.
How do I work out the GST in a GST-inclusive price?
Divide the total by 11, because the GST is one-eleventh of a GST-inclusive price. So, for a $110 total, the GST is $10 and the price before GST is $100.
Why is GST one-eleventh of the total?
Since GST is 10% of the price, the total is 110% of the price. Therefore, the GST is 10 parts out of 110, which is the same as one-eleventh.
What is GST-free in Australia?
Most basic food, many health and medical services, most education courses and exports are GST-free. However, prepared food, such as takeaway meals, usually includes GST.
When do I need to register for GST in Australia?
You must register within 21 days once your GST turnover reaches $75,000, or $150,000 for a non-profit. In addition, taxi and rideshare drivers must register whatever their turnover.
Can I use this GST calculator for invoices?
Yes, since it shows the price before GST, the GST and the total. However, a valid tax invoice also needs details such as your ABN, so follow the ATO’s tax invoice rules.
